Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Exercises-1



So I went through the Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain which is an amazing book for anyone who wants to improve their drawing.I did all the exercises from this book and I have not yet scanned/photographed all of it yet.I am thinking of setting up a new blog just to chronicle all the drawings I did as exercises from this book and will probably do that soon.In the meantime I am uploading a few of them here.

This one is a portrait in profile of my husband from life.This is an exercise midway through the book and it took me around 1 hour to do it.I think the contour drawing exercises I did before really helped me do this one and I think its not too bad I think I got his look of concentration right :)

Learnt a lot about trying to place features on the face correctly from this workshop.
The method I followed was to take a print of the references provided to me by the instructor,take a black and white print of it and then stick it in my drawing book and try to replicate the drawing.The images I am uploading show this.My husband took pictures of my sketchbook and I have tried to correct for the difference in perspective in photoshop a little bit.

Doing a digital painting after a long time..to get back into it..tried a portrait of my husband.Painted from a photograph as reference which was taken by me on our Pondicherry trip.I'm not too happy with the skin details...probably get back to it at a later date...For now uploading as is.
Painted in photoshop....over a week..couple of hours a day.

Trying a master copy by Hughes Merle using the color glaze method.Completed the first stage of the black and white underpainting in photoshop.I will be glazing it now to add color.

Speed paint 40mins photoshop.for the Daily Sketch category "Her Name is Grace" ran out of time so couldnt work on the legs and arms more....:(

She lives in dreams and helps us metamorphosise a bad dream into a good one.

Done for a painting challenge at work.

About the creative process : I wanted to make her little amorphous and hazy...just as a dream ...If you focus too hard or hold onto her too much then she will disappear... :) Created random splotches and saw a shape in it so just painted to enhance that hoping that will help her get that feel...of forming out of her background.

Tried a master copy of http://www.johnsingersargent.org/Jacques-Barenton.html by one of my favorite artists... John Singer Sargent. Done in photoshop.12-15 hours.
